I have recognized that asking reflective questions, while seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance, has brought healing, clarity, direction and purpose to my life. One of those questions are, what is God’s will for my life?
It is so easy to just go through the motions each day, trying to just complete all the responsibilities on our ‘to do’ lists. But it is good to take stock and ask deep questions. The answers may require us to make some fundamental changes in how we do things. But it is best not to delay such introspection, which sets the foundation for a proactive and intentional approach to living.
Because our responsibilities can include commitments for different life segments, it is easy for conflicts to occur as we try to honor the varied obligations. There is just so much time in a day.
In doing the introspection we would identify areas that need our attention, but we cannot make all the changes at once, because change takes time. But we can adopt an incremental approach, which requires patience, determination and strength. We are encouraged in Isaiah 40:31 that God renews our strength.
When I prayerfully asked a question like, ‘What is the point of all of this anyway?’, the answer I received was found in 1 Corinthians 10:31 which says, ‘Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.’ Giving glory to God will also inform how I utilize my time and resources.
When we have to make changes, we need to pray for the Holy Spirit’s leading. We may feel the heaviness of the challenges. But we can be assured ‘that the joy of the Lord is your strength’ (Nehemiah 8:10). That is, the joy of going on this change journey with God; the journey of experiencing wholeness and our different life segments supporting us in achieving our God-directed purpose and calling.
So instead of our activities competing for our time and energy, our lives become like a symphony of interactions between the different activities. We experience joy, fulfillment and peace.
Over the years, while cultivating a garden, I have been able to reap the fruits and vegetables from the seeds and the seedlings that I planted in the past. I also have done sprouting which generally produces results in a few days. So I learned that there are short, medium and long term crops, and this I have applied to the process of change and getting results in life.
So some changes will achieve immediate or short term results, medium term results and long term results. We can adopt strategies that will benefit us now and in the future. This is encouraging and can be a motivation for us to decide to take the journey of harmonious living.
Obtaining the desired changes could also require adjustments in our routines and schedules to experience more joy in what we do each day.
Because God made us to relate to each other, God provides avenues so that we do not have to experience change and transformation alone; and we can seek communities that would help to foster our growth.
I encourage you to continue pressing on each day.
Be Blessed
